Our Initiatives
Invest in a teacher. Scholarship a student. Transform a community. If you have a specific initiative you’d like to donate to, find it below and click the “Donate Now” button.
Help us turn the tide of poverty & violence in South Sudan.
“Leaders of Tomorrow” Fund
James Baak, our founder, is an example of how an investment in one life can change an entire community. Would you consider helping us to invest in exceptional youth with additional training and education?
100% of your donation will go towards the University scholarship of an exceptional student who will return to his or her village after completion to give back to their community with their talents.
Achiek Women’s Clinic
Would you consider giving to the general fund of the Achiek Women’s Clinic to help meet our operational needs and costs of medicine?
Hope Secondary School Scholarship
Hope Secondary School is the first of its kind in Lietnhom. You have the opportunity to support a student by paying their fees for the year ($125) or providing their uniform ($35) which is a source of great appreciation and pride in South Sudan.
A Teacher’s Salary
Teachers at the Hope Secondary School are paid $200 / month. Would you consider helping us by contributing monthly to sponsor a teacher?
Peace & Reconciliation Workshops
Would you consider contributing to the costs of hosting a 3-day Peace and Reconciliation Workshop aimed at bringing an end to tribal violence in South Sudan?
Bible Literacy Initiatives
Would you prayerfully consider contributing to our Bible Literacy initiative? We provide New Testaments in the local dialect and help people to read and understand the teachings of Jesus. Ten (10) New Testaments can be purchased and distributed for $195.
Leadership and Empowerment
We believe strongly that an investment made in future leaders will pave the way for the next generation.
Most Pressing Need
If you are not particular about where your donation is allocated, we’d love to have the flexibility to assign it to our most pressing need at the time of your gift. We appreciate your partnership.
Operational Overhead
Every good initiative has people and costs involved in performing the work. This is often an overlooked and underfunded area for organizations that serve those in need. At SMARD, we don’t automatically deduct 12% or 15% from every donation to cover our administrative costs and overhead. We treat our overhead as a separate expense that we raise funds for. Would you consider contributing to the administrative costs of this organization? It costs us roughly $5,820 / month to maintain our office in Juba, South Sudan and pay for 4 full-time staff.
